The Nautical Archaeology Society are running a summer fieldschool with the Lochaline Dive Centre in the Sound of Mull from 13th June – 2nd July 2011. The fieldschool will take you from an introduction to nautical and underwater archaeology through to techniques for recording underwater sites and artefacts, further specialist training will also be provided in subjects such as illustration and photography and underwater excavation. We will be working on the site of the John Preston which is a 19th century merchant sailing ship lying in 16-22m of water, work on the site will include survey and underwater excavation on the site. This is a great chance to learn some new skills and to do something different with your diving!

The fieldschool will start with a NAS Introduction and Part I course which costs £200 and includes a one year membership subscription to the NAS. The fieldwork and additional courses will begin from the 15th June and costs £395.

Accommodation and food can be arranged separately with the Lochaline Dive Centre.
